Foster City, California needed a new website that was modern and simplified to ease navigation for residents. This new site also had to be easy for staff to maintain.

The old Foster City website had numerous problems. Though informative, the visual style of it was lacking from what a modern website would feature. Pages did not conform to devices resulting in gaps and white space. The layout was not ideal either, especially on the home page. Members of the community consistently complained that finding what they needed was a challenge every time they visited the site. Various links and content were scattered across the home page and the quick links option did not make anything quick. Staff also had a difficult time developing new pages and renovating old ones due to an outdated and hard to use Content Management System.

Foster City ultimately chose Municode to deliver a hub of communication between the city and citizens through a brand-new site. Upon visiting the newly designed homepage, residents see a clean and modern feel that mirrors Foster City. The visuals provide a user-friendly experience by utilizing clear images and an easy to read font combined with small photos and logos. This guides navigation through the semi-scrolling design and mega menu bar. The quick links have also been removed and replaced with a "How Can We Help?" section.  Interactivity features include newsletters, forums, city maps, select a language, a search bar, and various menus. A major improvement from the old site is its device responsiveness, allowing anyone to access the site from anywhere at any time. The staff has found it easier to create and maintain pages with the user-friendly Content Management System, ensuring the site is consistently current and fresh.
