Municode Announces New Board of Directors

The Tallahassee-based local government technology company, Municode recently celebrated its 70th anniversary. The company is the nation’s leading codifier and currently serves 4,250 local governments across the nation. Over the last couple of decades, the company's suite of product offerings has expanded beyond codification in response to their local government clients' evolving needs for digital engagement solutions. They developed a unique integrated software platform referred to as The Circle of Governance™, which brings together five crucial civic management areas: Codification of the local law, Public Meeting Management, Public Document Archiving, Policy and Procedures Publishing, and Website Design. These products increase transparency for local governments and their communities.

Dale Barstow, a long-time Municode executive, has retired after working with the company for 50 years. Dale now sits on the Board of Directors at Municode and will help the company continue its mission of strengthening democracy.  Dale began his career with Municode in 1971 and has extensive experience working with Municipal and County Governments. He is a graduate of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Dale logged over 18,000 hours flying himself across the United States meeting with new and existing clients while attending many State and National Conferences.  Dale is a past President and an Honorary Member of the International Institute of Municipal Clerks Foundation (IIMC) and an Honorary Municipal Clerk in the States of Florida, Texas, North Carolina, and Missouri.

Municode also welcomed Jay Smith, Vice President of Ajax Building Company, to its Board of Directors. Growing up, he was immersed in the business side of the industry with both his father and grandfather managing the family company, Ajax.  He is a graduate of the University of Florida with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, and is proud to carry on the Ajax legacy while applying values instilled in him from an early age. In his capacity, Jay serves as Project Executive for the North Florida region, oversees business development across the Southeast, supervises the expansion of the company, and coordinates Ajax’s involvement within the community. Jay is actively involved and has led several community organizations including: Chair of the Greater Tallahassee Chamber Board of Directors, Finance Chair of the United Way of the Big Bend, Hancock Whitney Bank Market Board of Directors, Leadership Florida, Leadership Tallahassee, Florida A&M University School of Architecture and Engineering Technology Advisory Board and the Maclay School Board of Directors. He looks forward to working with Municode as it continues to grow in the civic tech space.
